You Make Me Wanna Roll My Windows Down, and Cruise :)

Cruise

Florida Georgia Line

The song 'Cruise' by Florida Georgia Line was sort of a summer anthem for me. I listened to it in my car and had it on repeat for a good part of the summer, because that's what the song feels like: summer. As soon as I heard this song, I thought it was a unique, catchy song, and then I listened to it over and over and couldn't get enough of it, it's the perfect song to jam out to in your car while driving. Florida Georgia Line is a new country duo, with lead singers Tyler Hubbard, from Georgia, and Bryan Kelley, from Florida. I think that the name of they're band fits them pretty well, seeing as though one is from Georgia and the other is from Florida. They have been opening up for popular country singers like Blake Shelton, Jake Owen, Brantley Gilbert, and Colt Ford. 'Cruise' is one of their first singles from their new EP coming out soon on iTunes.

I just heard this song on country radio recently, and it hasn't been out on the radio for very long at all, but now since it's out there, there's no doubt that it will become popular, seeing as though it's a pretty catchy song. The chorus of this song is probably my favorite part, when they sing 'Baby you a song, you make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise, down a back road blowin' stop signs through the middle every little farm town with you, and this brand new Chevy with a lift kit, would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it'. This part of the song is the catchiest in my opinion and that's really the only reason I liked the song in the first place. This song is all about riding around in the summer and having fun, not worrying about anything and just having a good time. Listening to this song now makes me miss summer so I haven't been listening to it much anymore, but once next spring and summer come around, this song will definitely be one of the first to go on my summer playlist. :)

'Cruise' Lyrics

Baby you a song
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise

Hey Baby

When I first saw that bikini top on her,
She's poppin' right out of the south Georgia water.
Thought, "Oh good Lord!" she had them long tan legs
Couldn't help myself so I walked up and said:

Well baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise...
Down a back road blowin' stop signs
Through the middle,
Every little farm town,
With you.

& this brand new chevy with a lift kit,
Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it!
So Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll
My windows down and cruise!

Yea she was sippin' on Southern' and singin' Marshall Tucker,
We were falling in love in the sweet heart of summer.
She hopped right up,
Into the cab of my truck
And said, "Fire it up! Let's go get this thing stuck!"

Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise...
Down a back road blowin' stop signs
Through the middle,
Every little farm town,
With you.

& this brand new chevy with a lift kit,
Would look a hell of a lot better with you up in it!
So Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise!

When that summer sun fell to it's knees,
I looked at her and she looked at me,
And I turned on those KC lights and drove all night,
Cuz it felt so right,
Her and I man we felt so right.

I put it in park,
and grabbed my guitar,
and strummed a couple chords,
and sang from the heart.

Girl you sure got the beat in my chest bumpin'
Hell I can't get you out of my head

Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my windows down and cruise...
Down a back road blowin' stop signs through the middle,
Every little farm town with you!

Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise...
Down a back road blowin' stop signs
Through the middle,
Every little farm town with you

And in this brand new chevy with a lift kit,
Would Look a hell of a lot better with you up in it!
Come on

Baby you a song,
You make me wanna roll my
Windows down and cruise!

Come on girl

Get those windows down and cruise

I'm Hard to Love, Hard to Love, No I Don't Make it Easy

Hard to Love

Lee Brice

'Hard to Love' by Lee Brice is a song that I used to hate. Every time it would come on the radio I would change it immediately, because I don't really like a lot of his music. I loved his first single, 'Love Like Crazy' which I will most likely do a blog post on that song in the near future. The single he released after that, 'A Woman Like You' was not one of my favorites. I hate that song, I think it's pretty annoying in my opinion. His latest song though has kind of grown on me. Now when this song comes on the radio I actually listen to it instead of turning it to another channel. The reason I listened to this song in the first place was because it was on a radio station in the car one day, and I instantly changed it to another country station, and this song was on that station too, so I was pretty much forced to listen to it. After I listened to it all the way through, I couldn't get it out of my head, I kept singing it, and then I realized that the song was pretty catchy and I actually liked it once I gave it a chance, or rather once I was forced to give it a chance.

I'm not a huge fan of Lee Brice, but apparently a lot of other people out there are. Lee Brice emerged into the country scene not too long ago, releasing his first hit single, 'Love Like Crazy' which was a pretty inspirational song about a man rising up from nothing to selling computers and becoming rich and it is kind of a success story, which is a really meaningful song. His next single he released was 'A Woman Like You' which was a little more corny, in my opinion. This song describes how he is, obviously, 'hard to love'. The first line of this song is 'I am insensitive, I have a tendency to pay more attention to the things that I need. Sometimes I drink too much, sometimes I test your trust, sometimes I don't know why you're staying with me'. One of my favorite lines throughout the song is, 'girl you've given me a million second chances and I don't ever wanna take you for granted'. These lyrics really probe that he does care but he is hard to stay with and he doesn't want that to come between them, and I think that like is really sweet. The chorus of this song is really catchy, 'I'm hard to love, hard to love, no I don't make it easy, I couldn't do it if I stood where you stood', really proves that he appreciates what his love interest is putting up with through the relationship and I think that is a really good line in the song also. Overall, I really like this song from Lee Brice, and it really grew on me, but as far as I'm concerned, Lee Brice is a hit or miss with me music wise.

"Hard to Love" Lyrics

I am insensitive I have a tendency
To pay more attention to the things that
I need. Sometimes I drink to much,
sometimes I test your trust, sometimes I dunno
Why you're staying with me

I'm hard to love, hard to love,
I don't make it easy, I couldn't do it if I
Stood where you stood
I'm hard to love, hard to love,
You say that you need me, I don't deserve
It but I love that you love me. goood

I am a short fuse,
I am a wrecking ball crashing into
your heart like I do
You're like a Sunday morning
Full of grace and full of Jesus
I wish that I could be more like you.

I'm hard to love, hard to love,
I don't make it easy, I couldn't do it if I
Stood where you stood,
I'm hard to love, hard to love,
You say that you need me, I don't deserve
It but I love that you love me. Goood
Love me good

Girl you've given me a million
second chances and I don't ever wanna take
You for granted, I'm just a man, I'm just a man

Hard to love, hard to love,
Oh I don't make it easy and
I couldn't do it if I stood where you stood.
I'm hard to love, hard to love
and you say that you need me, I don't
Deserve it but I love that you love me
Good. (x2)

You love me good.

Every Brick, Every Board, Every Slammin' Door Blown Away

Blown Away

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood has sold 14 million albums, with 14 number one singles, and has earned five Grammy awards, all achieved with only 3 albums. Carrie Underwood emerged into the country music scene after she won the fourth season of American Idol. Her newest album, titled "Blown Away" has a more darker story line, and it has songs that are more than just love songs, this song being a prime example of this. Carrie Underwood claims that there is a lot of "drama" in this album, more compared to her past albums. Even though she is happily married, she still puts out some songs that have a darker vibe to them. Every one of her songs has a story line that goes along with it. Not one of her songs lacks meaning behind it, and her music videos do a really good job at portraying the story line of her songs. That is one thing I really like about Carrie Underwood, her music videos are actually relevant to the song and the story behind the song is told throughout the music videos that she releases.

Her newest song, "Blown Away" has been my favorite song now for a very long time. I listened to this all throughout the summer, and it's been on replay ever since. This song is about a girl with an abusive and alcoholic father, and there is a huge tornado coming and it is going to hit their house. In the song, she states that "her daddy was a mean old mister, her momma was an angel in the ground, the weatherman called for a twister, she prayed 'blow it down'". In the music video, Carrie plays a girl with a father who gets mad at her after she won't let him touch her, he flips out and she runs away and finds that there is a storm coming and it's going to hit her house soon. She runs back to the house following this yellow brick path, kind of like a reference to the Wizard of Oz. When she returns, she finds her dad passed out on the couch with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. She tries waking him up but when he doesn't budge, she goes down into the underground basement in the house and takes shelter. "Some people call it takin' shelter, she called it sweet revenge." is what the song says about her going into the basement. She waits out the storm, showing the house above her falling down. After the storm is over, it is sunny outside, and the whole scene outside has changed, and the grass is greener and everything is brighter, and there are no more things for her to worry about, and the video ends with her walking away into the sun.

One of my favorite lines in this song is "There's not enough rain in Oklahoma to wash the sins out of that house, There's not enough wind in Oklahoma to rip the nails out of the past". The meaning behind this is that she wants the storm to destroy everything that has been negative in her life, and I think it's a pretty strong message in the song, and I also think it's a pretty unique verse in the song. This song has a lot of meaning behind it, and I like that a lot, because it's not some song that is really simple and all it has going for it is that it is catchy. This song can get stuck in your head, and also teach you a meaning behind it, which I really like. The music video portrays the story in this song almost perfectly, and it was kind of like what I pictured the story to be when I first heard this song. I really like that her music videos have stories that fit the song, because I am a sucker for watching music videos with meaning and a good story. I don't know what it is about them, but it the music video has no relevance or no meaning and story line, then I will most likely stop watching it within the first few seconds. The song "Blown Away" is probably one of my favorite songs right now, and I think it's a really addictive song to listen to, because I have had it on repeat throughout the summer up until now, and I'm still not even close to being tired of it. :)

"Blown Away" Lyrics:

Dry lightning cracks across the skiesThose storm clouds gather in her eyesHer daddy was a mean old misterMomma was an angel in the groundThe weather man called for a twisterShe prayed blow it down
There's not enough rain in Oklahoma To wash the sins out of that houseThere's not enough wind in OklahomaTo rip the nails out of the past
Shatter every window 'til it's all blown awayEvery brick, every board, every slammin' door Blown away, til there's nothin' left standin'Nothin' left of yesterdayEvery tear soaked whiskey memory blown awayBlown away, Blown away
She heard those sirens screamin' outher daddy laid there passed out on the couchShe locked herself in the cellarListen to the screamin' of the windSome people call it takin' shelterShe called it sweet revenge
Shatter every window til it's all blown awayEvery brick, every board, every slammin' doorBlown away, til there's nothin' left standin'Nothin' left of yesterday Every tear soaked whiskey memory blown awayBlown away
There's not enough rain in Oklahoma to wash the sins out of that houseThere's not enough wind in Oklahoma to rip the nails out of the past
Shatter every window til it's all blown awayEvery brick, every board, every slammin' doorBlown away, til there's nothin' left standin'Nothin' left of yesterday Every tear soaked whiskey memory blown awayBlown away, blown away, blown away, blown away

We Laid A Lot of Memories Down, Like Tattoos on This Town

Jason Aldean
Tattoos on this Town

The song that I have been interested in this week is by a country star named Jason Aldean with his hit song "Tattoos on this Town". He has spent more time on the number one spot of country music charts than any other country star in the last 12 months. This hit song spent a lot of time at the top of the charts when it was first released as his new single. Aldean is a country artist, but his songs have more of a rock vibe, and in one of his recent songs, "Dirt Road Anthem" he tries to add rap to the country song, and it was a success, landing at the top of the charts after it's release. Aldean doesn't believe that since he's a country star, he has to sing country, and that's it. He likes going outside of the box and trying more rock or rap songs along with his country lyrics. He grew up in a small town in the south but he claims that he's not all country, and that he likes trying to mix up the genre's in his music a little.

"Tattoos on This Town" is a song about growing up in a small town with friends and having a good time being a teenager. "It sure left it's mark on us, we sure left our mark on it, let the world know we were here, with everything we did" pretty much explains the meaning of the song pretty well. Also, " There ain't a corner of this hallow ground, that we ain't laughed or cried on, it's where we loved, lived and learned real life stuff, it's everything we're made of". This lyric in the song expresses that the town meant a lot to them and they learned a lot from living in the town they grew up in, and I think it's a really relatable song, especially to a lot of teens, and also to some adults. This song can help them relive they're teenage years.

The lyrics and message in this song are meaningful in themselves, but the music video for this song is a really interesting story line. The story in this music video is about a young boy and girl who fall in love, referencing the lyric in this song "Ali Will You Marry Me?". They fall in love, and grow up together and the boy in the story goes off to war and is away from his girlfriend for a long period of time. While he's gone, she finds out she's pregnant, and a little before she is about to have the baby, two soldiers come to her door and tell her that her boyfriend died in battle. She has the baby, and at the end, the little boy walks over to a tree and sees his mom and dad's carving in the tree from when they were teenagers. This story is really sad in my opinion, but it's also a really interesting story line. I am a huge sucker for music videos that have stories to them, so I automatically am drawn to them. Jason Aldean is probably my favorite country singer right now, and I love his music and I love going to his concerts in the summer and watching him perform. Tattoos on this town is a really meaningful and also a pretty good song to just jam out to in your car.

Jason Aldean "Tattoos on This Town" Lyrics

There's still black marks on that county road,
where we drag raced our pick-ups and mustangs
And weathered all the sun and rain
And to this day up on that overpass, even underneath the new paint,
you can still see,
"Allie, will you marry me?"

Take a ride, look around
There ain't no doubt

It sure left it's mark on us, we sure left our mark on it
We let the world know we were here, with everything we did
We laid a lot of memories down, like tattoos on this town

There's still a rope burn on the old branch,
that hangs over the river, I still got the scar
From swinging out a little too far
There ain't a corner of this hallow ground,
that we ain't laughed or cried on, it's where we loved,
Lived and learned real life stuff
It's everything we're made of

It sure left it's mark on us, we sure left our mark on it
We let the world know we were here, with everything we did
We laid a lot of memories down, like tattoos on this town
Like tattoos on this town

Everywhere, it's where we are
It gets me right, in my heart

It sure left it's mark on us, we sure left our mark on it
We let the world know we were here, with everything we did
We laid a lot of memories down,
And we'll always be hangin' around, like tattoos on this town
Like tattoos on this town

Gotta Fly Before One More Moment Gets By

Time is Love

 Josh Turner

The song I chose to do today is a song called "Time is Love" by Josh Turner. It it a pretty new song and has been on the radio constantly. At first I hated the song, because I couldn't stand the sound of Turner's voice, I thought it was way too deep for my taste. After I finally gave the song a chance and listened to the words, I fell in love with this song. One of my favorite lines from this song is "Love to hang longer but I got someone who waits, waits for me and right now she's where I need to be". I really think this song is relatable and I also think it's a really cute way of saying that you are devoted to that one person and he is showing how he makes time for the person that he cares about. He really proves this when he sings "I only get so many minutes, don't wanna spend them all on the clock, in the time that we spent talkin' how many kisses have I lost".
Turner's other singles like "Why Don't We Just Dance" and "Long Black Train" are more mature types of country music that appeal to an older crowd. His deep voice makes him seem a lot older than he is. In my opinion, his past singles did not do him any justice. Now that he has a much more young song out on the radio, I feel like he is getting more attention from younger fans, and is appealing to a more younger crowd. This song can relate to just about anyone though, with it's message to a girl he cares about and is more than willing to spend more time with. I also like that this song sends out a message to live in the moment and don't worry about all the small things, and just spend time with the people that you love and care about. I have to admit, I was not a fan of Josh Turner until I listened to this song and the message that it brings, and the more younger vibe.

Josh Turner "Time is Love" Lyrics

I know I gotta put in the hours,
Make the money while the sunlight shines
But anything I gotta get done,
It can get done some other time

Time is love, gotta run,
Love to hang longer,
But I got someone who waits,
Waits for me and right now
She's where I need to be,
Time is love, gotta run

I only get so many minutes,
Don't wanna spend 'em all on the clock
In the time that we spent talkin',
How many kisses have I lost?

Time Is love, gotta run,
Love to hang longer,
But I got someone who waits,
Waits for me and right now
She's where I need to be,
Time is love, gotta run.

Gotta fly
Fly
Before one more moment
Gets by...

Time Is love, gotta run,
Love to hang longer,
But I got someone who waits,
Waits for me and right now
She's where I need to be

Time is love, gotta run,
Love to hang longer,
But I got someone who waits,
Waits for me and right now
She's where I need to be,
Time is love, gotta run.

Time is Love, gotta run...
